Small Planet Fund

Projects
My mother and I started the Small Planet Fund in 2001 after our life-changing experience reporting Hope’s Edge, from the foothills of the Himalayas to villages in Kenya. We wanted to create a vehicle to support visionary and courageous social movements around the world, like the ones we saw on our journey. To date, the Fund has raised and given away more than $1 million for grassroots organizations and innovative social entrepreneurs bringing to life citizen-led solutions to hunger, poverty, and environmental devastation around the world and across the country and two of the Fund’s core grantees have won the Nobel Peace Prize since the Fund’s founding. In order to shift food systems toward sustainability, the Fund supports projects that help people envision change is possible, support those actively making change happen—from farmers to community food activists—and transform policy making to even the playing field for sustainable food action.
